(Oct.29) Today we’re celebrating…The Interweb’s Birthday
Happy Birthday to The Internet**
It was thirty-seven years ago today
When Standford Research Institute got the gang to play
And they came the UCLA way
So “ARPANET” became a “series of tubes?”***
And Happy Birthday to
Al Gore’s little kid…the Internet*
*sung really, really badly to the tune of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
**On October 29, 1969 the first data link up between computers from UCLA and The Standford Research Institute was successful, thus ushering in what would become ARPANET - the predecessor of the the Internet.
FYI: The email symbol @ was adopted for use in 1972.
***“Series of tubes was a metaphor used by United States Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), to describe the Internet in a Wednesday, June 28, 2006 speech about network neutrality” OY! Our governmental geniuses at work.
