World AIDS Day / Day Without Art
World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS. This year, it’s up to you, me and us to stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice.

Day Without Art (DWA) began on December 1st 1989 as the national day of action and mourning in response to the AIDS crisis. To make the public aware that AIDS can touch everyone, and inspire positive action, some 800 U.S. art and AIDS groups participated in the first Day Without Art, shutting down museums, sending staff to volunteer at AIDS services, or sponsoring special exhibitions of work about AIDS. Every year since artists and art institutions throughout the world have taken part in the observances, many closing or covering their artwork with black cloths for the day. While others hold special observances and performances in remembrance for those artists lost to the disease

The theme of World AIDS Day this year is Stop AIDS; Keep the Promise – Accountability.

What can you do today? After the jump we’ll offer some ideas from the AVERTing HIV and AIDS website on how you can support World AIDS Day -

If you are worried – get tested.

At school or work, you can support World AIDS Day by:
Having a dressing up, down or fancy dress day
Putting up some posters – get people talking
Making and selling red ribbons
Organising a creative writing/poster campaign
Setting up a debate or a quiz – there’re lots of ideas for topics on our site
Cooking an international meal or having a cake sale
Arranging a sponsored three-legged race or balloon release
Getting your friends, family, colleagues or pupils to express their feelings and expand their knowledge about AIDS

World AIDS Day 2006 – A Video Tribute – I’l Adore

Friday, December 1st, 2006
In observance of World AIDS Day today I’d like to dedicate this song – I’l Adore by Boy George – to our friends and loved ones who are no longer with us.

This song was originally released back in 1995. I have always found it difficult to listen to this song. We’ve lost so many to this disease that sometimes the memories are almost too painful to remember. But we must…

And to those we’ve lost: Robert, Marcus, Scott, Roger, John, Stephen, Robert, and the too many others. You are loved. You are missed. You have not been forgotten. Peace.

2006 Video Advent Calendar – December 01st.

Friday, December 1st, 2006

We thought we’d try something a little bit different this year with our Advent Calendar. With the popularity of video content websites like Youtube and Google Video we have access to some great holiday moments. Whether its an amateur piano player playing one of our favorites to snippets of holiday TV specials from long, long ago. The assortment is amazing!

So this year we thought we’d put together a Video Advent Calendar featuring some fun, interesting, and we hope entertaining, holiday clips to help us countdown to Christmas. And as today is the first day of Advent 2006 we thought we’d start with a simple piano rendition of one of my holiday favs – Linus and Lucy from "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
