(Dec.01) Today we’re observing…World AIDS Day / Day Without Art

World AIDS Day / Day Without Art
World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS. This year, it’s up to you, me and us to stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice.

Day Without Art (DWA) began on December 1st 1989 as the national day of action and mourning in response to the AIDS crisis. To make the public aware that AIDS can touch everyone, and inspire positive action, some 800 U.S. art and AIDS groups participated in the first Day Without Art, shutting down museums, sending staff to volunteer at AIDS services, or sponsoring special exhibitions of work about AIDS. Every year since artists and art institutions throughout the world have taken part in the observances, many closing or covering their artwork with black cloths for the day. While others hold special observances and performances in remembrance for those artists lost to the disease

The theme of World AIDS Day this year is Stop AIDS; Keep the Promise – Accountability.
