Cuckoo Dancing Week
Honoring the memory of the comedy team of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. So let the sweet, sweet sounds of "The Dancing Cuckoos" (their theme song) be heard far and wide this week!
And take some time this week and check out some of their great films and shorts, both silent and sound.
Between 1927 and 1940, they starred in sixty-two shorts and thirteen feature films (discounting numerous cameo roles in others’ films)… Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938); and the shorts Hog Wild (1930), Helpmates (1932), and their Academy Award-winning short, The Music Box (1932).*
And of course any celebration of “Stan and Ollie” just wouldn’t be complete without a mention of their film Babes in Toyland. What would my childhood Thanksgiving Day celebration have been without the perennial viewing of Babes in Toyland in all its black and white TV glory…
Memories light the corners of my mind. Misty watercolored memories…
And to brighten up my day (and hopefully yours) I found this trailer for the movie Babes in Toyland over at YouTube! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
In fact you’ll find a great assortment of video clips of Laurel and Hardy’s work over at YouTube.
