The 79th Academy Awards
It’s the Oscars, Oscars, Oscars. TV’s longest show of the year is hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. Its stars galore and all the fun begins hours before with the red carpet fashion reviews.
Who’s gonna win? I guess we’ll see.

Open That Bottle Night
Did you get a bottle of wine (or scotch, whiskey, a case of Heineken, or even margarita mixes)Â as a gift last Christmas? (can you believe its been 2 months since the holidays?)Â Is it still in your fridge? Well no more excuses. Tonight is the night to gather some friends, or if you’re pathetically alone or a hermit- yourself, and open that bottle up and party hearty!
Officially sponsored by Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher, the “Tastings” columnists for The Wall Street Journal, I’m thinking we’re supposed to be opening that fancy-schmancy bottle of wine you’ve got sitting around. But I don’t particularly like wine (yeah I know – “how barbaric“) so any type of liquid refreshment works for us!
Happy Saturday! Hic!!

Curling Is Cool Day
Yeah we know its not that kind of curling! Remember that really weird Olympic sport that looked like it included bowling balls, ice hockey, and brooms?!?
Well today there is a worldwide effort to show that the Olympic sport of curling really is, um, cool. (but its still mighty weird!)

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
During Engineers Week a concerned effort is made to reach out to school age girls and make them aware of the educational fields that could lead them on the path to engineering careers.
Women are severely underrepresented in the engineering profession. Research shows that girls and young women lose interest in subjects and the fields of study leading to engineering careers long before they enter college.*

Ash Wednesday (Christian)
The first day of the Lent. Christians begin their 40 day*Â period of fasting and penitence leading up to Easter Sunday.
Followers attend mass today and receive a mark of ashes in the sign of the cross on their foreheads signifying the belief that “from dust you came, to dust you shall return.” A version of such is stated by the priest when the ashes are administered to each follower.
The ashes used are from palm leaves left over from the previous years Palm Sunday observances.
*While the Lenten period is actually 46 days, Sundays are not considered part of the period of penance.

Pisces (Feb.20-Mar.20)
Pisces, the sign of the fish, is the twelfth and last sign of the Zodiac.
Individuals born under this sign are thought to be dreamy, romantic, humorous, generous, emotional, receptive, affectionate, and have an honest character, but are also prone to exaggeration, fickleness, passiveness, hypersensitivity, over-talkativeness and paranoia*
