Passover Fact #1 – What Does "Passover" Mean?

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

“The holiday’s name – Pesach, meaning “passing over” or “protection” in Hebrew, is derived from the instructions given to Moses by G-d . In order to encourage the Pharaoh to free the Israelites, G-d intended to kill the first-born of both man and beast. To protect themselves, the Israelites were told to mark their dwellings with lamb’s blood so that G-d could identify and “pass over” their homes“*

Play The Recorder Month
Well the month’s almost over, but we couldn’t let March pass without highlighting one of the painful favorite memories of our early school days. Playing the recorder.

This most useless of musical instruments is hoisted every year on some of the most musically untalented youngsters in the country. Myself included.

Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day
Now who can forget those great country music ditties like “Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart” by Johnny Cash? Or “Everytime I Itch I Wind Up Scratching You” by the one and only Glen Campbell? Or how about Kenny Chesney’s “Being Drunk’s a Lot Like Loving You and It’s Sending Me Straight to Rehab!.”

Is there a spring in your step when you hear “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” from Deana Carter or Cledus T Judd’s “Did I Shave My Back For This!

Ahh the memories! And whats up with hairy country singers anyway?

So load up your iPod today and enjoy those quirky country music songs like…

Tim McGraw’s “Do You Want Fries With That?”
Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”
The Dixie Chicks’ “White Trash Wedding”
Tim McGraw again with “Refried Dreams”
Kenny Chesney’s “Someone Else’s Hog”
and of course my personal favorite “Too Much Month (At The End of The Money)”  from Marty Stuart.

Pecan Day
Why should that damn peanut have all the attention? Always looking smug in his top hat, spats and monocular.
Well its time for that tastier cousin, Pecan, to take his place in your life.

Lets look at the facts – peanuts basically make peanut butter. Whoopdie Do!

Ah – but the Pecan is part of such wondrous and tasty delights as Pecan Pie and Pralines and Cream Ice Cream! (Yum Yum!)

And while we’re at it – today’s the anniversary of the planting of Pecan trees at George Washington’s Mount Vernon home by none other than George himself. Oh, and those trees? Why they were a gift from Thomas Jefferson!

Maybe it’s time to send that peanut packing back to Jimmy Carter, cause its pecan time now!
