Thursday, March 20th, 2008

The most festive of Jewish holidays, a time of prizes, noisemakers, costumes and treats. The Festival of Purim commemorates a major victory over oppression and is recounted in the Megillah, the scroll of the story of Esther.

Visit our Purim celebration Purim on the Net. For your entertainment we have fun Holiday things for you and your family. We’ve got stories of Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus, Mordechai, and Haman, we’ve got graggers to spin, masks to print and color, costumes to make, and Hamantashan to bake! Sweater Day

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

Won’t You Wear A Sweater On March 20?
Today is a new holiday celebrating the 80th birthday of one of our childhood icons – Mister Rogers! And in honor of his birthday everyone is being asked to wear a sweater today. Cardigans are optional (but preferred!)

Here is a video from Mr. McFeely talking about wearing a sweater in honor of Mister Rogers.

So let’s make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we’re together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?Won’t you please, won’t you please,
Please won’t you be my neighbor?

Holy Thursday / Maundy Thursday / Great Thursday (Christian)
The Thursday before Easter, commemorates Christ’s Last Supper with the Apostles.

On this day four events are commemorated: the washing of the Disciples’ feet by Jesus Christ, the institution of the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, the agony of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the betrayal of Christ by Judas.*
