Holiday Invite: Purim on the Net

Happy Purim!

Holidays on the Net is delighted to invite you to join our celebration of the most joyous of Jewish holidays, Purim. This fun and festive holiday commemorates a major victory for the Jewish people over oppression in ancient Persia.

Come explore the story of Purim with us. Learn all about the major players: Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus, Esther’s uncle Mordechai, and the evil Haman. Discover how Israelis enjoy the frivolity of Purim. Test your knowledge of little know Purim facts and figures in our Did You Know? Purim column.

Learn all about the requirements and proscriptions of this holiday, including drinking ’til you drop and sending Purim gift baskets. Known as mishloach manot, these gift baskets are stuffed with traditional Purim goodies like Hamantashen. (If you have never eaten one of these three cornered cookies, you will definitely want to try out one of our recipes.)

If you have children at home, share the spirit of the holiday with them by making Purim crafts, such as Purim masks and noisemakers (known as graggers), and by getting dressed up in costumes.

We look forward to celebrating with you! Please join us anytime, at our celebration Purim on the Net, between now and March 10th (i.e. the 14th of Hebrew month of Adar), when Purim is celebrated.

Purim begins at sundown on Monday March 09th, 2009.

Happy Holidays!
