Happy Earth Day!

Holidays on the Net is delighted to invite you to join our celebration of Mother Earth.

The newest addition to the Holidays on the Net calendar of festivals, our Earth Day on the Net celebration has everything you need to know about preserving and protecting our planet.

For example, did you know that the goal of the first Earth Day, celebrated in 1970, was to serve as an environmental learn-in? You can honor this original intention by doing a little eco-learning of your own in 2009. Read up on the history of Earth Day and then test your environmental know-how with some Earth Day trivia.

When you’re ready to get seriously green, check out our articles on the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. With fifty easy suggestions for greening your day-to-day life, there’s no reason not to practice a little Earth Day magic all year-round. Learn how to grow an earth-friendly garden (a great activity to share with your children) — or bring your greening efforts inside, with our 10 eco-friendly recipes for homemade cleaners.

If you have children at home, you will surely enjoy one of our Earth Day craft projects, all of which encourage you to reuse supplies you already have on hand. Or print out one of our Earth Day coloring pages — on recycled paper, of course! Complete your Earth Day celebrations by whipping up a planet-friendly menu based on our delicious, wholesome vegan recipes.

Earth Day is annually celebrated on April 22nd. We look forward to sharing our love for Mother Earth with you over the next several days. And we invite you to spread the green love with your family and friends by sending a free Earth Day e-card.

Happy Holidays!

Did You Know?
Facts & Figures about
Celebrating and
Saving Mother Earth

April 16 : 06 days till Earth Day

Did you know that the overall rate of recycling in the United States today stands at approximately 28%?

That’s double what it was a decade ago. By contrast, Austrians recycle fully 60% of their post-consumption waste products. The United Kingdom, on the other hand, has a recycling rate just above 17% and Greece pulls up the European Union rear with an abysmal 10%.

Earth Day is a day to both celebrate the environmental victories of the past and to reflect on the many remaining opportunities for improvement. Whether you celebrate Earth Day by attending a rally, signing a petition or switching to highly efficient light bulbs, make an effort to be mindful of the original vision for this day: to serve as a national learn-in for the sake of the environment.

Join our Earth Day celebration as we present a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to Earth Day on April 22nd!
