Did you know that May is Older Americans Month?

Originally designated as Senior Citizens Month by President Kennedy in 1963, May was renamed Older Americans Month in 1980 by President Carter. The celebration is intended to honor America’s growing elderly population.

Over the next forty years, the number of people over the age of 65 living in the United States is expected to increase from 12% of the population to more than 21%, a total of 86.7 million people.

We’ll be presenting a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to the the month of May! So stop by again tomorrow.
