About the Month of August

Did you know the birthstone for the month of August is the vibrant green Peridot?
Formed by volcanic activity, the Peridot is mined today in Brazil, Australia, Hawaii, the Congo, and Arizona. Considered a symbol of strenth and the promise of growth, the Peridot can be found in a variety of shades of green, from a light yellowish-green to a dark olive.

Did you know that the month of August is named for Augustus, Julius Ceasar’s grandnephew?
After he defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra to became emperor of Rome, the Roman Senate voted to name a month after him, just as they had named the month of July his great uncle. Not only was August named after him, but the Roman Senate decided to lengthen the month from 30 days to 31 days — since Julius’ month, July, also had 31 days.
