August 13 : 09 days to Ramadan*
Did you know that Muslims traditionally break their fast with dates, since that is what the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have done?
Did you know that in addition to abstaining from food and drink, Muslims also refrain from smoking and sexual relations?
This is because the month is seen as a time for spiritual reflection and discipline.
Observed by more than one billion Muslims around the world, the month of Ramadan is a time for spiritual purification achieved through fasting, self-sacrifice and prayers. It is also believed to be the month when the Holy Quran was sent down from Heaven as a “guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a means of Salvation.” We’ll be presenting a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to Ramadan.* Please join us!
*Please Note: the first day of fasting in North America is expected to be 08/22. Elsewhere depends where you live.
