
Mule Day
On this day in 1785, George Washington bred a pair of mules received as a gift from King Charles III of Spain. This breeding first introduced mules to the United States.

Mules are sterile and cannot be bred. Washington received as a gift a pair of donkeys from the king of Spain, but one died in transit. The other was successfully bred with a horse to produce the first American mules.
