Happy Barack Obama Day!!

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Did you know its “Happy Barack Obama Day?”

Well it is if you live in the tiny county of Perry County, Alabama!

It seems that the Perry County Commission has passed a law observing the second Monday in November as “Barack Obama Day.”

Albert Turner Jr., the sponsoring commissioner, said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect’s victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.

The majority of the county’s 12,000 residents are black and the county commission’s three black members as well as one of its two white members voted for the resolution. All County offices will be closed and its roughly 40 workers will get a paid holiday.

So mark it on your calendar – November 8, 2010 is the next Barack Obama Day.

Did You Know?
Facts & Figures About
America’s Veterans Day

Nov 09 : 02 days till Veterans Day

Did you know that Veterans Day is commonly written as Veteran’s Day or Veterans’ Day?

While these spellings are grammatically acceptable, the United States government has declared that the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case is the official spelling of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is the day that America pays tribute to its military veterans. Also known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, Veterans Day is usually observed November 11th, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of WWI formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.) Join us as we present a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to the Veterans Day (November 11th)!
