Did you know that stepmoms in America have their own special holiday?
National Stepmother’s Day is celebrated on May 1st. Of course, you are welcome to honor your stepmom on Mother’s Day, too!
Mother’s Day is a time of commemoration and celebration for Mom. It is a time of breakfast in bed, family gatherings, and crayon scribbled “I Love You’s.” So join our Mother’s Day festivities as we present a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to Mother’s Day on May 09th!

Hairstylist Appreciation Day
What would Marge Simpson be without her blue bouffant? Rachel without her “Rachel” shag? Farrah Fawcett (who?) without the famous “Farrah Fawcett” flip? Dorothy Hamill’s wedge? Bo Derek’s cornrows? Or even Sanjaya without his pony-hawk?
Well we’ve got their hairstylists to thank for these lovely, and in some cases iconic doos. So give a shout out today (and maybe a bigger tip) to your own hairstylist and let them know how important they are to you and your tresses.

Did you know that the founder of Mother’s Day, Anna Jarvis, was vehemently opposed to the commercialization of the holiday?
“I wanted it to be a day of sentiment, not profit,” she once said. Despite Jarvis’ opposition, Mother’s Day is the second biggest gift-giving holiday in America, preceded only by Christmas. The National Retail Foundation estimates that Americans will spend more than $14 billion a year on Mother’s Day.

Did you know that motherhood is commemorated in national celebrations around the globe?
From Australia to Zimbabwe, more than sixty countries celebrate Mother’s Day together with Americans on the second Sunday in May.
In the United Kingdom, Mothering Sunday is held on the forth Sunday of the Lenten Season. March 8th marks the celebration of moms in most countries of the Former Soviet Union, while the Arab world honors mothers on the Vernal Equinox (March 21).
