Did you know that on Valentine’s Day, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent on his invention, the telephone, which he called “an improvement in telegraphy”?

If you can’t be with your loved one on Valentine’s Day, you can “reach out and touch someone” — thanks to Mr. Bell.

February 14th is Valentines Day – a worldwide celebration of love and romance, marked by giving red roses and chocolate hearts or by sending valentines. Join us as we present a new “Did You Know?” fun fact each day as we countdown to Valentine’s Day, the day of love!

Pay tribute today to Samuel Plimsoll, a British politician who saved countless lives of British seamen in the mid-1800s. Plimsoll convinced the House of Commons to put an end to the practice of overloading English ships.
