Chicken Boy’s Birthday
I’ve gotta say this is one of my absolute favorite daily holidays of the year. My admiration for Chicken Boy, and the artist that “saved” him from certain destruction, goes back years and years and years!
And who, or more realistically what, is Chicken Boy you may ask?
Well Shame! Shame! Shame on you, you cultural Luddite!
The beloved Chicken Boy is a pop cultural icon in Los Angeles. Chicken Boy is a 22-foot-tall statue of a boy with a chicken’s head holding a bucket of chicken.
Named for the former restaurant that once shared his name, Chicken Boy was rescued from destruction by a local graphic designer over 20 years ago and now resides proudly once again over the Los Angeles community. Chicken Boy has also been lovingly referred to as the “Statue of Liberty” of Los Angeles.
Visit the official Chicken Boy website for more information (make sure to read the looong story as it’s very humorous) and of course CB gifties galore! And don’t forget to print out your own membership card to become a card carrying “Friend of Chicken Boy.”
