About Rosh Hashanah &
the Jewish High Holy Days

Sept 18 : 10 days to Rosh Hashanah*

Did you know that Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year?

The Jewish Holiday of Rosh Hashanah is widely known and celebrated as the New Years Day of the Jewish calendar, but…

Did you know that Rosh Hashanah actually has a fourfold meaning?

It is the Jewish New Year, the Day of Remembrance, the Day of Shofar Blowing, and…

Did you know that Rosh Hashanah is also referred to as the Day of Judgment?

This moniker invokes the Jewish belief that on Rosh Hashanah, G-d judges each person and determines his or her fate for the coming year.

Rosh Hashanah begins a 10 day period, known as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora’im, a time of penitence and prayer that ends with Yom Kippur. Jews worldwide are given these 10 days to repent for their sins and ask G-d for forgiveness.

We’ll be presenting a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish High Holy Days. Please join us!

*Rosh Hashanah 5772 begins at sundown on Wednesday September 28, 2011.
