Facts, Figures & Folklore
About Rosh Hashanah &
the Jewish High Holy Days

Sept 25 : 03 days to Rosh Hashanah*

Did you know that the Jewish month of Elul immediately precedes Tishrei, the month in which the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur fall?

The month of Elul is considered a “warming up” period of reflection and repentance, during which special selichot, or forgiveness, services are recited daily.

Rosh Hashanah begins a 10 day period, known as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora’im, a time of penitence and prayer that ends with Yom Kippur. Jews worldwide are given these 10 days to repent for their sins and ask G-d for forgiveness.

We’ll be presenting a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish High Holy Days. Please join us!

*Rosh Hashanah 5772 begins at sundown on Wednesday September 28, 2011.
