About the Month of October

October 01

Did you know that the month of October is named after the Latin word “octo”, meaning eight?

While October is the tenth month of the Gregorian calendar, it was the eighth month of the old Roman calendar.

Historically, the year started in March, but when January and February were added in, October kept its name.

Welcome October!

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

Welcome October.

With its cool days and even cooler nights. With the trees beginning their change into robes of red, yellow and gold. And with one of the best holidays of the year – Halloween!

And we’ve got all month to get ready for tricks and treats, jack o’lanterns, and those sweet, sweet bags of Halloween candy. Milky Ways, Toostie Rolls, and Candy Corn anyone?

October, the 10th month of the year, was originally the eight month of the year (“octo” means eight).*

Welcome October. My favorite month of the whole year!
