Did You Know?
Facts, Figures & Folklore
About Halloween

Oct 30 : 01 day till Halloween

Did you know that October 30th (today!) is Candy Corn Day?

Candy corn is one of the most popular Halloween treats.

Did you know that more than 35 million pounds of candy corn will be manufactured this year?

That’s equal to some 9 billion pieces of corn, enough to circle the moon 21 times if laid out end-to-end.

BTW – one serving of candy corn contains 140 calories and no grams of fat

The holiday of Halloween dates back to the Dark Ages. Once truly spooky traditions have morphed over the years into much more light-hearted (but still mischievous) celebrations. Here is a fun look at some of the facts and folklore that describe how All Hallows Eve came to be celebrated as Halloween. Join us for a new Did You Know? each day as we count down to Halloween.

Halloween will be celebrated on Monday October 31st.

Did You Know? Countdown to Days of the Dead (10/30)

Did You Know?
Facts, Figures & Folklore About Mexico’s
Days of the Dead
(Los Dias De Los Muertos)

Oct 30 : 02 days till DOD

Did you know that Mexican families set up elaborate alters called ofrendas during the Days of the Dead to welcome the spirit of departed loved ones for a brief visit?

Personal memorabilia, sugar skulls, and dishes containing the departed’s favorite foods are among some of the offerings left on the home alter.

Los Dias de los Muertos (Days of the Dead), is a traditional Mexican holiday honoring the dead. It is celebrated every year at the same time as Halloween and the Christian holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Unlike the modern-day interpretation of Halloween, Los Dias de los Muertos is neither morbid nor gloomy but rather a festive remembrance of those who have departed.

Los Dias de los Muertos, which is celebrated November 01st & 2nd, can also be referred to as (the singular) El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
