Happy Diwali!

Holidays on the Net is delighted to invite you to our newest holiday celebration: Diwali on the Net - celebrating the five-day Hindu Festival of Lights.

Whether with modest oil lamps or awesome firework displays, the Diwali festival illuminates Hindu homes and businesses for five spectacular days.

Come join us as we share some of the ancient mythology practiced on each of the fives days of the Diwali, including the pinnacle third day when families light their traditional diyas (oil lamps). Learn more about the origin of this ancient festival and then savor some of the sugary treats that are traditionally served during Diwali.

Holidays on the Net is delighted to invite you to share in our celebration of the festive, nine-day Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

This jubilant celebration, known as Chag Ha’Sukkot or Feast of the Booths, falls on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Tishri, just 5 days after the solemn Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

On Sukkot, Jewish families build their sukkah, or hut, in which they eat and sleep for the duration of the holiday. Recalling the impermanent structures that the Israelites lived in as they wandered the desert for 40 years before reaching the Promised Land, Sukkot also has an agricultural significance: celebrating the conclusion of the fall harvest.

Come learn more about the Story of the Sukkot and discover some of the festival’s central traditions, including waving the etrog, lulav and the four species. Get your children involved in the spirit of the holiday, with some fun-filled Sukkot crafts, including making your own sukkah out of PVC pipes.

Holidays on the Net is delighted to invite you to share in our commemoration of the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur.

Known in English as the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur falls on the tenth day of the Jewish month of Tishrei — just a week and a half after the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. The ten-day period between the High Holy Days is known as the Ten Days of Tshuva (Repentance), a time during which deep introspection and personal atonement is to take place.

Yom Kippur is a solemn day of fasting, repentance, and fervent prayer, which concludes with the blowing of the shofar. We invite you to come learn more about each of these rituals in our Yom Kippur overview.

Yom Kippur begins at sundown on September 27.
