Did you know that the first Thanksgiving took place in 1621?

In December 1621 the Pilgrims held a three-day feast in Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts to celebrate their bountiful harvest.

Did you know that the first Thanksgiving feast was celebrated during the Pilgrim’s second year in the New World?

During the first year, the Pilgrims were nearly decimated by the brutally cold winter.

Thanksgiving Day in America is a time to offer thanks, a time for family gatherings and holiday meals. A time of turkeys, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. A time for Indian corn, holiday parades and giant balloons. We are delighted to invite you to partake in our Thanksgiving celebration. Our table is full this year, but we always have room for one more! So join us for a new Did You Know? each day as we count down to Thanksgiving.

Both a federal and a state holiday, the day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to United States national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty

It is observed on November 11 which is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918)

In their second year, however, the Pilgrims flourished with plentiful food sources, thanks in large part to the friendship and guidance of an Abnaki Indian named Squanto.

Of these, 1.7 million are women, 2.4 million are African American and 9.7 million are over the age of 65.

Did you know that over 48 million Americans have served in the military since 1776?

Today, there are reported to be more than half a million regular duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Veterans Day is the day that America pays tribute to its military veterans. Also known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, Veterans Day is usually observed November 11th, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of WWI formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.) Join us as we present a new “Did You Know?” fact each day as we countdown to the Veterans Day (November 11th)!
